Dental emergencies can happen to anyone, at any time, and they can be very painful and distressing. Our practice focuses on providing urgent dental care to patients who are experiencing sudden and severe dental pain or other problems that require immediate attention. Please know that we will get you out of pain quickly and address the issue that is causing you pain.
Here are some common dental emergencies that require immediate attention from a dentist:
Toothaches: Severe toothaches can be caused by various dental problems, such as cavities, gum disease, or a cracked tooth. If left untreated, they can cause severe pain and discomfort affecting your quality of life.
Abscessed teeth: An abscessed tooth is a serious dental emergency that can cause sever pain, swelling and fever. It occurs when a bacterial infection develops inside a tooth or gums. Do not put off treatment for any swelling in your mouth as this may cause more severe problems that might be a threat to your body and require more complicated treatment.
Chipped off broken tooth: This can happen due to trauma or biting on something hard. It can cause pain and sensitivity, and may also affect the appearance of the tooth. There is also a risk of swallowing the fractured fragment of the tooth.
Knocked-out teeth: If a tooth is knocked out due to trauma or injury, it is important to see a dentist immediately to have the best chance of saving the tooth.
Lost or loose dental fillings: A lost or broken dental filling can cause pain and sensitivity, and may also increase the risk of further damage to the tooth. There is also a risk of swallowing or aspirating the loose filling in your mouth. Don’t delay seeing the dentist as this may cause more severe problems.
Broken braces or wires: A broken wire or a loose bracket can poke into your tongue or cheek causing pain and infection in that area. It is important that you see the dentist as soon as you notice this and get it fixed.
Bleeding gums: Bleeding from the gums can be a sign of severe underlying conditions, including gum inflammation and infection, vitamin deficiencies, medications, overzealous brushing, tooth abscess, blood disorders, foreign body stuck in the gums. It is important to see the dentist to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment.
Pain radiating to ear or head: This type of pain is a symptom of dental problems, most common being inflamed or infected dental nerve in the tooth, cracked tooth, a sinus infection, clenching or temporomandibular joint disorder. You should see the dentist as soon as you can to determine the cause of pain and get it taken care of.
